Sausage Balls

Not to be confused with meatballs. or those weird little smokies? These are the real deal. Best eaten right out of the oven. They have a hint of spice and crisp up a little bit with the cheese. Do yourself a favor though and make them with a stand mixer. These get hard to mix with such little liquid in the recipe.

Sausage Balls

Not to be confused with meatballs, these balls are a crowd favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. uncooked breakfast sausage
  • 1 lb. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, optional
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheet pans with parchment paper.
  2. Mix together all ingredients in a large bowl until just well-combined. Scoop mixture into tablespoon-sized balls with a scoop or using two spoons.
  3. Roll into balls with hands and place onto baking sheets.
  4. Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked throughout. Serve warm.
