Night-Before French Toast Casserole

This is my grandma Libbus’s recipe. I ALWAYS make it the night before but I’m sure it would be delicious if you just let the juju soak in for 30-45 minutes before baking. Depending on your oven, you may need to cook an additional 15 - 30 minutes. It’s weird. But worth it.

Night-Before French Toast Casserole

An eggy version of French toast.

Ingredients

  • 2 10-ounce long French or Italian bread loaves, cut into 1-inch thick slices
  • 8 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces
  • Additional butter for pan

Instructions

  1. Grease 9x13" pan with butter.
  2. Mix all ingredients.
  3. Line pan with bread slices. Pour mixture over bread.
  4. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Put pan in oven and turn to 350°F. Bake 45-50 minutes. Dot bread with butter pieces before cooking.
